Art

June 18th, 2010

Dear Year 1

This week in art we will be making individual collages of our favourite outdoor place. Please be talking to your child over the weekend to help them think about where their favourite outdoor place may be, e.g. the park, seaside or garden. We will be discussing what they can see, hear and smell. Also it would be good if they could collect a few things to use in their collage. Please bring these in on Monday 21st June.

The week after we will be making a Marquette, (small models) of a scultpure of their favourite place. They will then use this to help them produce their final sculpture.

Thank you for your help.

French Day!!

May 26th, 2010

Year 1, you have all worked so hard on our topic, Barnaby Bear around the world. Barnaby is still travelling and I am sure we will receive more postcards to learn about different countries next term, although Barnaby has sent a postcard from France.

To celebrate all your fantastic work, on Friday the 28th May, we are going to have a French day. We are going to be learning French phrases, making our own Eiffel Towers, listening to French music, playing ‘boules’, role-play in the French Patisserie in the PAL room and we will also be having a small food tasting picnic.

You may bring a small teddy to join in at the picnic on Friday afternoon.

I’m very excited!

Assembly

May 10th, 2010

Year 1, we have been working extremely hard on our Assembly and I am very proud of how many of you have already learned your lines. I know our song is tricky to learn but this is your homework for this week and next to learn the words. If you want to practise the song with the music then you can click on the link.

Parent’s, carers please can you ensure your child has the appropriate clothing for the country they are talking about.
children will not need to wear their uniform on the 21st of May though they may wish to bring additional clothing depending on the weather.

Egypt – white clothes (any other ideas for costumes for Modern Egypt would be very helpful.) (Traditional style of clothes if you own any)
Australia – brightly coloured clothes, t-shirts/shorts, sandals and sun hats.
India – brightly coloured clothes – long-sleeved t-shirts and trousers. (Traditional styles of clothes if you own any)
Antarctica – warm clothing – boots, coats, hats, scarfs, gloves.

Journeys – Barnaby Bear around the World

April 12th, 2010

Year 1 our topic this term is Journeys, Barnaby Bear around the World. Over the Easter holidays you have been asked to research about a country that Barnaby Bear has visited over Easter. We will be looking at the weather, the food they eat, the animals that live there and the language they speak as well as landmarks of that country. We will be beginning our topic by looking at Egypt.

Please add any of the research you have found out about and add a comment.

As part of our topic we are going to be making suitcases that we will need to pack for each destination. Please if possible could you bring in to school a spare shoebox or other suitable box for Friday 16th of April.
